One 60-day voyage through the Land Down Under was terminated following the death of an older female passenger who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a break. The vessel left without her and went back later that day after the crew became aware the woman was unaccounted for.

An extensive search operation found her person the next day.

Officials are investigating the incident, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

The CEO of the shipping company stated that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the rest of the cruise had been terminated due to the "sad loss and previous technical problems".

Via official communication, he added that travelers would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to organize the return journeys of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also released an updated announcement, and said they had "issued a directive to the Master" preventing any new passengers from entering the ship.

The representative said that they would attend the vessel in the port city upon its coming back.

The ship first departed Cairns on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the moment of the elderly woman's demise. The tropical location was the opening port on the voyage.
